GENEALOGY AND ANCESTRY OF WOODROW WILSON, 28TH PRESIDENT

Woodrow Wilson is the only U.S. President to be buried at Washington National Cathedral. He is best remembered for serving as President during World War I. Afterwards, he unsuccessfully lobbied for the U.S. to join the newly-formed League of Nations. As President, Wilson signed the amendment to the U.S. Constitution giving women the right to vote. Woodrow Wilson was born on December 28, 1856 in Stanton, Virginia. His parents were Joseph Ruggles Wilson and Janet E. Wilson. On his father's side, Wilson is descended from the kings of Scotland and from Charlemagne and William "the Conqueror." His Scottish ancestors moved to Ireland and became part of the Scotch-Irish migration to America. Woodrow Wilson's second wife, Edith Bolling, was descended from both Pocahontas and from Peter Jefferson, the father of Thomas Jefferson, through Thomas Jefferson's sister.
