GENEALOGY AND ANCESTRY OF WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON, 9TH PRESIDENT

William Henry Harrison was our first President to die in office and served the shortest period of time of any President. William Henry Harrison was born on February 9, 1773 at Berkeley Plantation, Charles City County, Virginia. His father was Benjamin Harrison V, Governor of Virginia and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, who in turn was a descendant of Robert "King" Carter, the richest man in colonial Virginia. His mother was Elizabeth Bassett, with the Bassett family being another prominent family in colonial Virginia. From his father's side, William Henry Harrison is descended from Charlemagne, William "the Conqueror" and various other English kings. William Henry Harrison's grandson, Benjamin Harrison, was also elected President of the United States. From the first John Carter to migrate to Virginia, William Henry Harrison and his grandson Benjamin Harrison share a common ancestry with President Jimmy Carter.
