GENEALOGY AND ANCESTRY OF ANDREW JACKSON, 7TH PRESIDENT
Andrew Jackson was our first President to be born in a log cabin and was the first President to be elected while living west of the Appalachian Mountains. He was also our first President to ride on a train. Known as "Old Hickory," before becoming President he was a famous military hero and Indian fighter. During the War of 1812, he defeated the British at the Battle of New Orleans. One of his most controversial acts as President was the removal of all Indians east of the Mississippi, including the Cherokee, resulting in the infamous "Trail of Tears." Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 in Waxhaws, South Carolina. His parents were Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth Hutchinson. Both of Andrew Jackson's parents were from Ireland.
