GENEALOGY AND ANCESTRY OF MARTIN VAN BUREN, 8TH PRESIDENT

Martin Van Buren was the first President to be born after the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. The term "OK" was originated in reference to his nickname "Old Kinderhook." He is the only President for which English was not his primary language, with Van Buren being raised in a Dutch family where Dutch was the primary language. Martin Van Buren was born on December 5, 1782 in Kinderhook, New York. His parents were Abraham Van Buren and Maria Hoes. Martin Van Buren shares a common descent from Dutch ancestor Cornelis Laurens with President Theodore Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt.
