GENEALOGY AND ANCESTRY OF ANDREW JOHNSON, 17TH PRESIDENT

Andrew Johnson was sworn in as President after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. He was the first President to be impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives but was not convicted by the Senate, and thus was not removed from office. Andrew Johnson was born on December 29, 1808 in Raleigh, North Carolina. His parents were Jacob Johnson and Mary McDonough. Jacob Johnson was a poor laborer who along with his wife worked at the Cassos Inn in Raleigh, North Carolina. Andrew Johnson's father died when Andrew was only four so he never had a chance to attend school.
