GENEALOGY AND ANCESTRY OF THEODORE ROOSEVELT, 26TH PRESIDENT

Theodore Roosevelt was our youngest President (age 42) and was both the first American and the first President to win the Nobel Prize. He also was the first President to refer to the Executive Mansion as the White House. Before becoming President, he was a war hero, leading the Rough Riders in a charge up San Juan Hill in Cuba during the Spanish-American war. Teddy Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858 in New York City. His parents were Theodore Roosevelt and Martha Bulloch. His father was from a Dutch mercantile family that was one of the most prominent families in New York. On his mother's side, Roosevelt was of Scotch-Irish and French Hugenot, with his mother ancestors going back to Charlemagne and William "the Conqueror." Theodore Roosevelt was a fifth cousin to President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was an uncle to Eleanor Roosevelt. He shares a distant relationship by marriage to President Martin Van Buren.
