GENEALOGY AND ANCESTRY OF LYNDON B. JOHNSON, 36TH PRESIDENT

Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as President about Air Force One following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Johnson was the first President to be sworn into office by a woman. Johnson is best remembered negatively for the escalation of the war in Vietnam while positively he is remembered for his Great Society and passage of the Civil Rights Act and Medicare. Lyndon Johnson was born on August 27, 1908 near Stonewall, Texas. His parents were Samuel Early Johnson, Jr. and Rebekah Baines. On his father's side, his great-great-great-great grandfather John Bunton moved from Scotland and settled in Rowan County, North Carolina in 1758. His great-great-great grandfather John Johnson was a veteran of the Revolutionary War from Georgia. His grandfather, Jesse Johnson, moved to Texas in 1848. He was a rancher-drover and Confederate army veteran. Finally, Johnson's father, Samuel Early Johnson, was a school teacher, farmer, trader and member of the state legislature.
