PRESIDENTS WHOSE FATHERS DIED WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG - Barack Obama is the most recent U.S. President whose father died or left when he was young, with the consequence that he was primarily raised by his mother and grandparents. Other Presidents who were primarily raised by their mothers included: (1) President George Washington; (2) President Thomas Jefferson; (3) President Andrew Jackson; (4) President Andrew Johnson; (5) President Rutherford B. Hayes; (6) President James Garfield; (7) President Franklin D. Roosevelt; (8) President Gerald Ford; and (9) President Bill Clinton.
